Elina Nasution was born in Klang, Malaysia. At the age of 6, she moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where she studied in a British school for 7 years. Naturally, she built a British accent, so, it was quite difficult for her to adjust to the American school and its different culture that she was enrolled into after moving back to Malaysia. Soon enough, she was able to fit in with everyone thanks to her easy-going nature.
Right after school, she received an offer to study architecture in America. But due to tight finances, she could not afford to move overseas. Knowing full well she wanted to pursue a creative career, she opted for a bachelor’s degree in PR and Marketing instead and managed to complete her studies and started her career at 21 years old.
Elina’s first job was in a major Malaysian magazine house where she handled the CLEO magazine for more than a year. There, she learned how to work with larger teams, manage high profile events, social media marketing, what it’s like to be in a female-dominant professional environment, and she also learned about branding for both the company and for herself.
In the back of her mind, she knew that she needed to move into the digital sphere before print became obsolete. She came across the opportunity to work in a digital marketing agency called 2X.
It was during her time here where Elina dove deep into the world of digital marketing at an international level. Her accounts portfolio ranged in the Fortune 1000 tech companies, dominantly in the United States, and even worked directly with the c-level executives on long term marketing strategies and goals.
In her role there, she learned to use Martech tools, curate and implement marketing strategies, lead projects and manage clients from around the globe. She also learned to adopt a c-suite person’s mindset to guide her through it all.
However, Elina wanted to join the ‘client side’ because she wanted to be able to groom a company from ground up. When she got the opportunity to work with BitOrb, she was ecstatic!
Nonetheless, she was a bit hesitant because she had very little knowledge about cryptocurrency. Her boyfriend, who traded crypto and even mined altcoin, highly encouraged her to give it a shot even though everyone else around her advised her not to.
Elina took the leap of faith and accepted the job offer anyways. Though she’s still not an advanced trader, she truly enjoys what she does and the crypto community.
“It is very rewarding. I found a personal connection [to the industry] and I can see the value in what I do. Though not every day is perfect, I know more today than I did yesterday and the months before that.”
